If the whole “really, really massive killer shark” concept is a bit hard to grasp, the trailer for Meg 2: The Trench clears things up right at the get-go, when a Meg munches down on a T. rex. These suckers are big, see? Real big.
And yet Jason Statham can still kick one.
You’ve kinda gotta hand it to an actor who can seem to take himself entirely seriously and yet not seriously at all, at exactly the same time. Statham returns to lead the cast of Meg 2: The Megoning (sorry, The Trench) alongside Wu Jing, Cliff Curtis, and at least two people (Sophia Cai and Page Kennedy) who managed to survive the first film.
The synopsis almost sounds like it’s talking about an amusement park ride instead of a movie:

This sequel is based on the novel (called simply The Trench) by Steve Alten. Ben Wheatley directs; the team of returning scribes includes Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber and Dean Georgaris.
