It’s hard to pick a standout moment from the trailer for Mrs. Davis, Peacock’s new nun-vs.-the-algorithm series, which hails from writer/executive producer Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and writer/showrunner Tara Hernandez (The Big Bang Theory). But I’m going to have to go with the guy who gets really mad when someone refers to the all-knowing AI as Mrs. Davis: “No one calls Facebook ‘Doug’!”
Mrs. Davis wants to talk to Simone (Betty Gilpin, of American Gods and GLOW), who also happens to be a nun. Mrs. Davis knows Simone is coming for her. It? Her? Depends on how you want to talk about a very bossy algorithm.
Also, there’s a grail quest. Like, the holy one.
And that, frankly, is probably all we ought to know about this series. Well, a few more details: the story also ropes in Simone’s ex, Wiley (Jake McDorman), who has a terrible stash but is in with the Resistance. There’s a big doughnut and a motorbike and a lot of shots that have no context and better be as amusing in the series as they are in this trailer. I will even accept the cover of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” though it would be even funnier if it were the original.
Mrs. Davis also stars David Arquette, Ben Chaplin, Chris Diamantopoulo, Katja Herbers, Margo Martindale, Elizabeth Marvel, Andy McQueen, Mathilde Ollivier, Ashley Romans, and Tom Wlaschiha.
Fight the power algorithm on April 20th, when the show premieres on Peacock with four episodes. (It’ll appear weekly after that.)
