A nice cold January is just the time for a post-apocalyptic journey, right? We can all curl up with blankets and warm beverages while we watch Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay cross an unforgiving landscape in The Last of Us, which comes to HBO Max on January 15th.

The Last of Us stars The Mandalorian‘s Pascal and Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie. He’s the man hired to smuggle young Ellie out of a quarantine zone; she’s a kid who’s been born into an unimaginably changed world in which the cordyceps fungus has wreaked havoc upon humanity. The cast also includes Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge (reprising her game role), Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv, and the two actors who played Joel and Ellie in the original videogames, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.

The series is co-created by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann, the co-president of Naughty Dog and writer and creative director of the original game.

The first teaser for the adaptation of the popular game was released in September, on Outbreak Day—the day that, in the story’s world, a horrible pandemic reached critical mass. Presumably, we’ll see a full trailer before too long, though it’s still two months until the premiere date.

The Last of Us begins its journey on HBO Max on January 15th, 2023.
