One can never really make too many adaptations of classic literature. After taking a break from classic horror stories with his original Midnight Mass, Mike Flanagan is hitting the books again—the Christopher Pike books. The creator of The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor has teamed up with Leah Fong (The Magicians) for The Midnight Club, based on Pike’s 1994 novel of the same name. In it, seven terminally ill teenagers at a somewhat odd hospice called Rotterdam Home meet every night to share scary stories.

Presumably is isn’t long before their own stories become even scarier. (I mean, have you seen a Flanagan show? This is a given.)

The Midnight Club stars Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Aya Furukawa, Annarah Shephard, William Chris Sumpter and Sauriyan Sapkota as members of the club, who are introduced reciting a creepy pledge. Heather Langenkamp plays as the teens’ doctor, and Zach Gilford, Matt Biedel, and Samantha Sloyan appear in supporting and unspecified roles.

When the series was announced, it was reported that The Midnight Club would also incorporate material from other Christopher Pike books, though it’s not entirely clear if that’s still the case. Flanagan (whose next project is the also-bookish Poe adaptation The Fall of the House of Usher) will direct the first two episodes.

The Midnight Club premieres October 7th on Netflix.
