The Umbrella Academy’s Face-Off With the Sparrow Academy Begins in June

We’ve had to wait almost two whole years, but finally we’ve got a release date for the third season of The Umbrella Academy! Netflix’s adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comics returns June 22nd—and the streamer has delivered just the tiniest tease of a peek at what’s coming.

The Sparrow Academy—who seemed to have taken up residence in the Hargreeves siblings’ home when they returned from season two’s time-traveling hijinks—were introduced last year. They’re all new faces except for Ben (Justin H. Min), who is not dead in this tweaked timeline. He’s also not very nice. The Sparrows have already been messing with their Umbrella counterparts: making snotty videos, erasing everything from the Umbrella Instagram account, you know, the usual hazing, I guess, where alternate timelines and bad attitudes are concerned.

Netflix’s premiere date announcement is just long enough to show that every Hargreeves sibling is responding to the Sparrows in their own special way, which is to say: Luther (Tom Hopper) just stands there begin very large; Vanya (Elliot Page) looks suspicious; Klaus (Robert Sheehan) is twitchy; Five (Aidan Gallagher) is ready to take on the whole crew; Diego (David Castañeda) is right behind Five; and Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) is about to tell the Sparrows just what she’s heard about them.

Netflix also shared a summary for the third season:

After putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns. Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own—and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused)—now all they need to do is convince Dad’s new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?

The Umbrella Academy returns on June 22nd.
