There’s a new haunted house movie coming out, and its got some electric talent attached to it. According to Deadline, Erin Moriarty — who plays Starlight on Prime Video’s The Boys — is set to star in the film True Haunting along with Jamie Campbell Bower, who will be in the next season of Stranger Things.
True Haunting is based on the eponymous self-published book by Edwin F. Becker, where the author recounts his alleged experience living in a haunted house in the 1970s that led to his nationally-televised exorcism attempt. His book was adapted for the big screen by Richard D’Ovidio, and writer Blair Butler is making additional revisions, however, so I’m sure there will be some artistic license added to Becker’s recounting.
Here’s the synopsis of the movie, as reported by Deadline:
When Ed and Marsha Becker purchased their first home, they soon discovered the dwelling was haunted by ghosts. Specifically, the sinister family who lived and died there before. Desperate for help, the Beckers sought out an exorcism. The first ever televised. Millions around the country tuned in. Although the broadcast was a success, the exorcism was not. Instead, it made things worse. Much worse…
I admit that movies that hype up the fact they’re based on “true events” are a pet peeve of mine. Nevertheless, I’m down for a good ghost story and Moriarty and Bower look like they’d make a nice couple getting thoroughly frightened. Filmmaker Gary Fleder—whose previous credits include 1995’s Things to do in Denver When You’re Dead and the solid 2003 thriller Runaway Jury starring Rachel Weisz, John Cusack, Gene Hackman, and Dustin Hoffman—is also on board to direct, so it’ll likely be a spooky nailbiter of a film.
We’ll have to wait, however, to see how the feature pans out—there’s no news yet on if the film is in production, much less when it is slated to scare its way into a theater near you.
