The Teen Wolf movie announced last fall continues to take steps—growling, menacing steps, surely—toward reality. While the plan was always to feature the series’ original cast, it’s now official that most of the actors will return for the film, including (please take a deep breath here) Tyler Posey, Colton Haynes, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, Crystal Reed, Orny Adams, Linden Ashby, JR Bourne, Seth Gilliam, Ryan Kelley, Melissa Ponzio, and Dylan Sprayberry.
But, Variety says, “Dylan O’Brien, Arden Cho, and Tyler Hoechlin are not currently attached to the project.”
Careful readers and/or major Teen Wolf lovers will note that one of the returning actors plays a character who is, well, dead. Or was dead. But if The Vampire Diaries taught me anything, it’s that death is just, like, a minor inconvenience when supernatural creatures and beautiful young people are involved.

Variety describes the plot thusly:
In the film, a terrifying evil emerges in Beacon Hills. The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of banshees, werecoyotes, hellhounds, kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night. But only a werewolf like Scott McCall (Posey), no longer a teenager yet still an alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.

Extremely busy Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis is writer and executive producer for the film; he’s also developing the series Wolf Pack (which he will write) and Paramount’s live-action Aeon Flux reboot (which he will showrun, write, and direct the pilot for).
When the movie was first announced, it had a 2022 release window, but the casting news doesn’t specify anything further about a release date.
