Sarah Gailey’s The Echo Wife Will Be Adapted for Film

After what Deadline calls “a competitive situation,” the production company Annapurna (Her, Booksmart) has optioned the rights to bestselling author (and contributor) Sarah Gailey’s novel The Echo Wife. Gailey will co-executive produce the film, though there’s no word yet on who will be writing it.

The Echo Wife is the story of Evelyn Caldwell, a brilliant scientist whose ex-husband steals her research—and creates a clone of his ex-wife.

Here’s the novel’s full summary:

Martine is a genetically cloned replica made from Evelyn Caldwell’s award-winning research. She’s patient and gentle and obedient. She’s everything Evelyn swore she’d never be.

And she’s having an affair with Evelyn’s husband.

Now, the cheating bastard is dead, and both Caldwell wives have a mess to clean up.

Good thing Evelyn Caldwell is used to getting her hands dirty.

Gailey enthusiastically announced the adaptation on Twitter yesterday:

In 2018, Gailey won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer. They are the author of two Tordotcom Publishing novellas, River of Teeth (a finalist for the Hugo and Nebula Awards) and Taste of Marrow, and several novels, including the bestselling Magic for Liars. You can read all their work here, including an excerpt from The Echo Wife.
