Almost a year to the date after the first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 arrived, we have another new teaser—one that leans hard on the inspirational angle. And also that glowing lasso.
If there’s any new footage in this one-minute preview, it’s very brief: we’ve seen Diana running, lassoing, and hugging Steve Trevor already. “Everything will be different,” the very sincere voiceover says, which is almost funny—could things be more different than last time we saw Wonder Woman on screen? While the music is working very hard to be goosebump-inducing, I kind of miss the playful ’80s vibe the original trailer went for. But back then, this was a summer movie; it’s a Christmas movie now, and that means feels and seriousness.
Wonder Woman 1984 arrives on HBO Max on December 25th. Since deciding to release WW1984 on the streaming service, Warner Bros. has gone on to announce that all of its 2021 films will be released simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters—a decision that means we’ll be watching Dune, The Matrix 4, and other tentpole films from the comfort of our own sofas. The repercussions for other studios, and for the industry, are still shaking out.
(Heads up: some critics have already seen WW1984 and are talking about it on the internet, so ‘ware spoilers!)
