Claire Searches for Jamie in New Outlander Season 3 Trailer

Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, Starz has shared a new trailer for the third season of Outlander. While the first teaser was mostly from Jamie’s point of view—while giving a sense of how much scope the next batch of episodes will cover—now we get Claire’s side of things.

Adapting Diana Gabaldon’s Voyager (the third book in the Outlander series), this season sees Claire stuck in the past, albeit in a more figurative sense. The official synopsis, from Starz:

In season 3 of Outlander, the story picks up right after Claire travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank. Meanwhile, in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love. The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire’s heart… as well as new doubt. Separated by continents and centuries, Claire and Jamie must find their way back to each other. As always, adversity, mystery, and adventure await them on the path to reunion. And the question remains: when they find each other, will they be the same people who parted at the standing stones, all those years ago?

Entertainment Weekly also got some intel from star Caitriona Balfe about making that momentous last moment in the trailer match the visual in readers’ imaginations: “For Sam [Heughan] and I and all the writers, we felt that it was so important to make sure we had the tone right. Claire’s had time to prepare herself for what this might be and to play various scenarios through her mind. But for Jamie, this person just landed in his life again and there was no warning. So you’ve got two people trying to figure out how to go about this.”

The “droughtlander” ends September 10, when Outlander season 3 premieres on Starz.
