How much do you love your friends? Do you really love them? Do you love them enough to whisper, “I know,” and encase them in carbonite? Toymaker Thorsolli does, and lucky for us, he and his friend and Han-stand-in Jenny wanted to share their knowledge with the world!
Click through for more images of the project, and check out Instructables for a step-by-step how-to. We fully expect that half of you will spend this weekend donning Boba Fett helmets and encasing the other half.
First up: hands! You’ll want to do the hands separately, so you can attach them to the front of the case, but more importantly so you can wave them around and make “Hand Solo” jokes. Next, cast the face—but only after you’ve inserted breathing tubes. Lando and Boba Fett were less concerned with that step, but you should be.
And here’s Thorsolli’s friend Jenny painting her face:
The body portion was hand-sculpted, and a donated dress was cut up and draped over the sculpted torso section to create the full illusion of someone being frozen in carbonite.
A few steps later we get a full case (here’s the step by step on building the carbonite box itself), complete with LED-control panel! In all seriousness, you can never have enough LEDs.
Oh, and did we mention that it’s also a bookcase? Because it totally is! Now you have a home for a whole galaxy of Star Wars novels, and a stirring monument to your fight against the Empire.
