You Get a New Space-Centric Serialized Webcomic from Dave Roman Today! Astronaut Academy: Re-Entry

You get a new serialized webcomic today! It takes place in space and also sort of in video games. And it’s by the author of Teen Boat! And it’s free.

Today marks the launch of Astronaut Academy: Re-Entry—First Second’s new online serialized comic by Dave Roman. Check it out right now.

It’s spring semester at Astronaut Academy, this futuristic institution of learning, and student Hakata Soy has lost his heart.

And he’s not the only one . . . something is stalking the halls of Astronaut Academy, impersonating everyone’s crush-objects and making off with their extra hearts!  How can the students continue to learn (and have crazy adventures, sometimes having to do with bears, dinosaurs, and/or spelling bees) when they’re too woozy to get out of bed? Will Hakata Soy be able to save the day even in his weakened state? And isn’t eating peoples’ hearts kind of gross?

With a sprawling cast of captivating characters, Astronaut Academy Re-Entry is a high-octane follow-up to Dave Roman’s zany graphic novel Astronaut Academy: Zero Gravity, which was a NYPL Book for Reading and Sharing. Good Morning Connecticut called the book “hysterical,” while says, “great characters, funny vignettes which add up to an entertaining story, good for girls and boys.” Unshelved says, “Roman’s art combines the complex simplicity of Hello Kitty design, the surreal quality of Calvin and Hobbes dream sequences, and the over-the-top joy expressed by Yotsuba!”

Astronaut Academy: Re-Entry debuts with the full first chapter at A new page of the comic will be published every weekday. The complete Astronaut Academy: Re-Entry graphic novel will be published by First Second Books in May 2013.

Dave Roman is the author of several graphic novels including Astronaut Academy: Zero Gravity, Agnes Quill: An Anthology of Mystery, and Teen Boat! He has contributed stories to Explorer: The Mystery Boxes, Nursery Rhyme Comics, and is the co-author of two New York Times bestselling graphic novels, X-Men: Misfits and The Last Airbender: Zuko’s Story.
