My copy of The Fortunate Fall arrived today! Yet another book added to my reading pile based on your review. At the rate you're blogging these things, I'll have reading material for the next century, I think!

I just read part of your essay on BoingBoing, and the end here. It sounds insane that a tranlsator would ask you these questions. A dragon IS a dragon, the way a king is a king or a secretary is a secretary. Please keep writing your beautiful books, and contact me if you need a new translator for french, I'd be honored.

With apologies if you get this question all the time, but google didn't tell me anything: Do you happen to know when the paperback for Half a Crown will be released? I bought the first two in paperback before I knew that they were good enough that I would've wanted them in hardcover, but now I want to stick to having the entire series in the same format, and the wait is killing me - had expected the paperback to be out several months ago already...

Please, could we have a Brust Re-read Index page? Those bastids over at Wheel of Time Re-read have one, and so do the kids at Lord of the Rings Re-read. It's totally unfair and why can't we have shiny index pages and nice things... Ahem. I'm really looking forward to your re-reads/reviews of this series :)

I cant believe you know this book - my mom gave it to me for Christmas the year it came out - and its one of the 20 books I brought with me when I moved from NYC to Santa Monica in 2000.

I know the short story about the mindless human herds being harvested by aliens for food. I have it here somewhere. Have to search it, though... Will get back to you. Kind regards from Markus D from Belgium.

As someone who is not a writer (at least not of anything you'd cast your eye over here), I'd like to thank you for your contributions so far. You give blogging a good name. You're really making me think and making me want to take a look at the things you mention--the ideal job description for a great critic.

about me

I write SF and fantasy novels, and I read a lot, and eat great food. It worries me slightly that this is so exactly what I always wanted to do when I grew up.
