Announcing Tor.com’s 5th Birthday Party Bash in NYC!

Tor.com 5th birthday partyIt’s our biggest year yet, so it’s our biggest PARTY ever! Since 2008, this stubby little rocketship has traversed the realms of original fiction, original art, given you rereads and rewatches from your favorite worlds, not to mention articles, reviews, and original essays exploring all aspects of science fiction, fantasy and the universe! Tor.com's fifth birthday is on July 20th, so we’re throwing ourselves a party on Wednesday, July 24th and you’re invited!

For the milestone of turning 5 Earth-years old, we’ll be offering up complimentary drinks, Tor.com swag, free book giveaways, other special birthday goodies, but also, a show. At the start of the festivities we’ll be hosting Lev Grossman, Ellen Datlow, Genevieve Valentine, and Michael Swanwick in an exclusive SF trivia contest. Hosted by Ryan Britt, and featuring secret prizes and exciting stakes, this spectacle is not to be missed. Come place your bets on your contender!

It will all go down at Housing Works Bookstore and Café in New York City on Wednesday July 24th, 6:30 PM. All the Tor.com staff will be on hand to hang out, have a glass of complimentary wine/beer, and talk about the greatness of the last five years. Join us for this once-in-this-universe special birthday party!

I wish I could attend! Sadness. Maybe someone could stream it live for the faraway faithful?

Only in America...? Boo-bloody-hoo... Happy Birthday, regardless!

We've got an event over here in the UK next weekend called Edge Lit 2 celebrating leading edge Fantasy, SF and Horror -- it's in Derby, and would have been a fabulous place to give away cool Tor freebies, etc. of the Brandon Sanderson variety (a great down-to-earth guy, btw, depsite his fiction... lol...) and if it's okay with you I'll celebrate it all on my lonesome... sob, sob... aaarrrggghhhh..... Life's sooooo unfair.... :-)

Is it a problem if we're underaged?

Asterat @8: You shouldn't have any problems getting into the bookstore itself (no bouncers or anything like that), so no worries!

Stefan and everybody else: We all wish you could be here, too--or, given the current heat index here in NYC, we wish we could come visit all of you :) Here's hoping that by the tenth anniversary, we can all just conveniently teleport to the party...
