Get Eight Great SFF Ebooks For the Price of Your Choice!

For the next two weeks, Humble Bundle is working with a cross-section of publishers to try out a Pay What You Can ebook sale. This promotion features eight amazing literary works from a prodigious league of award-winning authors, including Cory Doctorow, Neil Gaiman, Lauren Beukes, Paolo Bacigalupi, and more.

The books included are:

  • Pirate Cinema by Cory Doctorow, an intense story of youthful techno-defiance
  • Pump Six and Other Stories by Paolo Bacigalupi, a hard-hitting collection of 11 impactful stories
  • Zoo City by Lauren Beukes, an alternate Earth mystical science fiction tale
  • Invasion: The Secret World Chronicle by Mercedes Lackey, Steve Libby, Dennis Lee, and Cody Martin, a modern military superhero saga packed with bonus content
  • Stranger Things Happen by Kelly Link, a delightful fantasy collection of 11 stories
  • Magic for Beginners by Kelly Link, the cross-genre follow-up to Stranger Things Happen

If a buyer decides to pay more than the average price for the bundle, they will also receive:

  • Old Man’s War by John Scalzi, a science fiction war epic
  • Signal to Noise by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, an ethereal graphic novel of a man’s last days

All of the books are available completely DRM-free for a wide range of eBook readers, mobile devices, and desktop computers. All the books are available in PDF, ePub (open ebook standard), and MOBI (Amazon Kindle) formats.

Customers can optionally allocate a part (or all) of their purchase to three fantastic charities:

  • The Electronic Frontier Foundation (Internet freedom non-profit)
  • The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (writers advocacy non-profit)
  • Child’s Play Charity (providing for kids in hospitals in the form of technology and games)

Note: "Signal to Noise" by Gaiman and McKean is not available in mobi format in this bundle (just bought it). It's in epub, PDF and high-def PDF. Just FYI.

Does this really have any affiliation with the Humble Bundle people? The URL is suspicious and I see no mention of this on the Humble Muble (but that could just be a slow update)?
3. Mike G.
@Gundato: I agree, looks a bit odd. The main "Humble Bundle" site has no mention of this bundle, and neither does their blog.

I can see it:

Awesome bundle and awesome charities! Thanks for sharing, Tor!

Not sure why, but it seems to be a separate thing. The books are there, I've already downloaded some to check, but I have to follow the emailed link to get them. They don't show up in my default humblebundle.com account library. Different database?

Someone got a bit trigger-happy. It is legit, it's just not live yet, based on this:

A couple reasons it seems legit to me:

1.) The video is on the WolfireGames Youtube account, which are the people who started Humble Bundle Inc.

2.) The appspot link does make a bit of sense because they've posted before about using Google App Engine to handle the immense load that the bundles generate (and each live App Engine app has an appspot url).

Perhaps the Humble Bundle homepage just hasn't updated yet? They usually run these things for two weeks, but the timer says two weeks and seven hours. I think they just haven't announced it yet except perhaps to certain media outlets.

@Mike G., Gundato

I think it's more of a slow update, see this tweet from Humble Bundle twitter account:

"We're launching a new kind of bundle in one hour from now -- stay tuned!"

@Gundato & Mike G.

Pretty positive it's legit. I just logged into my Humble Bundle account, and the eBook Bundle appeared under all the previous Bundles that I have purchased.

Note that even if one of those e-books doesn't have a mobi version, that's easy to correct with the software Calibre (the best for all ebooks related task and collection management) since they're DRM-free and the epub version is probably decent.

Apparently, if I write a very short text and a link it's flagged as spam. So let's hope this is enough to avoid the flag.

This is an official humble bundle, their official site is already with the offer.

Please update the provided in the article.

"Invasion" is only available in PDF. ePub and mobi display an error message when you lick on the download link.

"Invasion" is also available for free at the Fifth Imperium: http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/24-InvasionCD/InvasionCD/

The second volume is sold by Baen for just $6, DRM-free and in multiple formats too.

It's great, by the way!
