Win an ARC of John Scalzi’s Upcoming Little Fuzzy Reboot: Fuzzy Nation

Fuzzy Nation by John ScalziWe’ve got our hands on some ARCs of John Scalzi’s new upcoming book Fuzzy Nation (due out on May 11 of next year) so we’re hosting a giveaway! But first...what is Fuzzy Nation and why would you want it? From Scalzi himself:

It’s a novel, and it’s called Fuzzy Nation, and it’s a reboot of the Hugo-nominated 1962 science fiction novel Little Fuzzy, by H. Beam Piper.

On why a “reboot”:

I took the original plot and characters of Little Fuzzy and wrote an entirely new story from and with them. The novel doesn’t follow on from the events of Little Fuzzy; it’s a new interpretation of that first story and a break from the continuity that H. Beam Piper established in Little Fuzzy and its sequels. [...] ...as far as I know it’s never been done before. Science fiction TV and movie series are rebooted all the time—see Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek for recent examples of this—but I can’t think of a significant, original universe in science fiction literature in which this has been done, at least, not by someone who is not the original author. So I thought, hey, this seems like it could be a fun thing to do. So I did it.

You can find more info on the why of Fuzzy Nation at the above link. In the meantime, for the intrigued, we’re giving away six copies of the Advanced Reading Copy version of the title, two from this site, two on Facebook, and two on Twitter.

Entry Details: To enter, leave one comment on this post—duplicates won’t count—by noon EST on Friday, December 3rd, leave a comment in Facebook, or reply on Twitter. The six winners will be chosen randomly. Please check your email, Facebook inbox, or Twitter account between December 3-6; if we don’t hear back from the winner in 24 hours, another winner will be chosen.

75. Trevor Fountain
The terms & conditions of this contest are ever so more easily accommodated than Scalzi's own. "Entertain me!" he said, with an imaginary-yet-almost-certainly-crowing laugh. And entertain him we have done, with comments and stories, telling tall tales drawn from our own, pathetic lives. We gave these things in the hope of being rewarded, but with little expectation that our hopes would be fulfilled.

Here, though, I shall make my stand! I will debase myself for no man, woman, or small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. I shall beg, it is true, but my begging will be done in the knowledge that the stylistic qualities of my pitiful cry will remain un-judged. Thank you, Tor, for giving me this chance to preserve my dignity.

I am a massive Fuzzy fan who actually liked the later sequels written by others better than Piper's "Oh, they're really sweet simple big children" colonialism. Though Piper's Heyday of Colonialism background among the Terrans is delightful.

At any rate, I'd be delighted to see more of the Fuzzies, and in fact, want all the Fuzzy books on my eReader as well.

If you loved the original "Fuzzy" trilogy you might also like Fuzzy Bones by William Tuning (his version of the third book in the trilogy which was published before the lost H. Beam Piper Fuzzies and other People, and Ardath Mayhar's book Golden Dreams: A Fuzzy Odyssey which retells the story of Piper's first two Fuzzy novels from the point of view of the Fuzzies themselves and adds Mayhar's own version of the third book in the series.
And checkout any other H. Beam Piper books you may have missed -- one of my other favorite Piper books is
Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen.
jlabeatnik
475. Asterith
Do Want. Will buy a copy either way thought :)
