Save the Date! Tor.com Spring Meet-up: Thursday, May 14th

At long last, spring has officially sprung here in New York City, which means that it’s time for the denizens of Tor.com’s Nerd Village to stagger wonderingly into the bright sunlight and celebrate the teachings of the Two Great Ones: “Be excellent to each other!” and “Party on!”

To this noble end, we’re going to be gathering for a Tor.com Spring Meet-up at d.b.a., located at 41 First Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Street, from 6 p.m. onward on Thursday, May 14th. Besides its impressive bar selection—featuring more than 250 varieties of beer, ales, and lambics, 90 single-malt Scotches, 60 kinds of tequila, and so on—d.b.a. boasts a large outdoor garden in the back (half-covered, for those of us who prefer life in the shade). It’s an ideal space for drinkers and non-drinkers alike to hang out on a nice day, and the neighborhood is full of great restaurants for people interested in ordering food or bringing take-out; there should be menus available.

So please save the date and come join us as we geek out over the usual—Star Trek, time travel, robot uprisings, the various problems of zombie romance, and, as always, the Goddamn Batman—and bask in the glow of what will hopefully be another warm, sunny, magical day here in Gotham...

You can RSVP to the event on our events calendar. Hope to see you there!

Durn Yorkers, having all the fun. I motion for a TordotCon! Something to justify leaving my dank lair and travel northwards. *winkwinknudgenudge*

edit:
I would also settle for TÖRdötCÖN. Perhaps we could try out those nifty ebook readers.

Awesome!

My last 1L exam is May 13. I won't have left New York yet (hell, I won't have left NYU to go uptown to the Upper West Side), and I'll definitely be in a mood to geek out.

And yes, d.b.a. is great. And it's close enough to Katz's that a deli run is feasible. (I know from experience.)

I love that picture so much. I'll be there. Do I need to come armed with my Star Trek reference books?

@ Torie

Are you pretending you haven't internalized every piece of Star Trek trivia in those books? I'm not buying it :) Besides, it's not like someone's going to show up and challenge you for the title of Chieftain of Nerd Village...or ARE they?

I welcome any challenger. BRING IT!

Though really, as far as fandom goes, I've probably retained way more minutiae about The X-Files than I have about Star Trek.

Dude, there are things at d.b.a. that even I will drink. Can't wait! Torie, I do suggest coming armed. Let's play trivia things and bring board games this time around.

Is there table space? I can bring Munchkin or Apples to Apples.

For a second I read "Munchkins" and I got excited and hungry.

Munchkin sounds like fun. And depending on how busy it is otherwise, yeah, there's some picnic-bench tables.

I'll probably be there, showing off print-on-demand copies of the new anthology. I may bring Once Upon A Time, a collaborative card-based storytelling game.
