New Wallpapers: Manchess and Martiniere

Good morning, Tor.com! We’ve got some more wallpapers for you! As usual, you have to be a registered user and signed in to be able to download the wallpapers.

First up, another knockout piece by Gregory Manchess: a painting entitled “Above the Timberline,” created specifically as part of Massive Black’s “downloadable” demos, where Greg shares some of his technique, personal philosophies regarding being a professional, and how to follow your creative path.

Or how about 1440x900? It is missing from the list :(

1440 / 900 = 1.6
1680 / 1050 = 1.6

Download the larger file, and use that. Either tell your desktop to shrink to fit, or use Photoshop or GIMP or something to change the image size to 1440x900.

Although, 1440x900 pre-set-up would be nice.

Thanks for putting these up. They're great.

As Execudork mentions, 1.6 is 1.6. As for additional resolutions, we'll take 1920 x 1200 under advisement for next time, since it's a prevalent standard rez, but we can't forsee every resolution for everyone's needs. GIMP or Pixelmator are your friends.

And yeah, these are stunning. As a matter of fact, this is my favourite Manchess piece in a long time. That is, until next month, when he comes out with—but you'll have to wait and see... ;)

I love Manchess's work so very much (seriously wish that video came without the bizarre backbeat, though.)

Awesome, especially Manchess's! It has a classy high-adventure(really high) pulp feel to it.

Both of these are great! I need a new background to celebrate my laptop getting fixed.... Watched the video again, too. Every time I see Greg I have this urge to squeak, "YOU PAINT THINGS WITH YOUR HANDS THAT IS SO MAGIC !!ELEVEN" but have so far restrained myself.

Agreed 1.6 is the same. Just resize with GIMP, or my favorite Paint.NET. They are both free programs.

Problem is, you can't resize to a larger screen ratio like 1920x1200. I also would like to see one larger size :)

I use ImageJ to double (or triple... ) the resolution, with interpolation, from a suitable submultiple - 1024 x 768 would get you to 2048 x 1620, and then just clip the edges. Or calculate the exact ratio, 1680x1050 x1.143 will give you 1920 x 1200 - I think I'l keep that one for a while :)

on windows I use the excellent and free irfanview for basic image manipulation - resize, rotate, lossless jpeg rotation, printing, cropping etc, as well as batch processing.

highly recommended - so good I bought two registrations!

I preferred the previous way of handing out the free wallpapers, where you clicked a link and went to the picture itself, so you could see it before deciding whether or not to download it. Apologies for looking the gift horse in the mouth; it's just the thumbnails are so tiny.

These are amazing. Thanks for making them available. I just got a new computer and immediately thought of these as my first wallpaper options.
