Haven’t yet picked up the work of Mary Robinette Kowal? We’re here to help! Two lucky winners will each receive a prize pack containing three of her books: her debut, Shades of Milk and Honey, from Tor Books; a galley of Ghost Talkers, just out from Tor Books; and her novella Forest of Memory, from Tor.com Publishing!
Shades of Milk and Honey‘s Jane Ellsworth is a woman ahead of her time in a world where the manipulation of glamour is an essential skill for a lady of quality. But despite the prevalence of magic, other aspects of Dorchester’s society are not that different: Jane and her sister Melody’s lives still revolve around vying for the attentions of eligible men. At the ripe old age of twenty-eight, Jane has resigned herself to being invisible forever. But when her family’s honor is threatened, she must push her skills to the limit in order to set things right—and, in the process, accidentally wanders into a love story of her own.
Ghost Talkers‘ Ginger Stuyvesant, an American heiress living in London during World War I, is a medium for the Spirit Corps, a special Spiritualist force that contributes a great deal to the war efforts, so long as the mediums pass the information through appropriate channels. While her fiancé is away at the front, Ginger discovers the presence of a traitor. Even worse, the Spirit Corps is now being directly targeted by the German war effort. Left to her own devices, Ginger has to find out how the Germans are targeting the Spirit Corps and stop them.
In Forest of Memory, Katya deals in Authenticities and Captures, trading on nostalgia for a past long gone. Her clients are rich and they demand items and experiences with only the finest verifiable provenance. But when her A.I. suddenly stops whispering in her ear she finds herself cut off from the grid and loses communication with the rest of the world. The man who stepped out of the trees while hunting deer cut her off from the cloud, took her A.I. and made her his unwilling guest. There are no Authenticities or Captures to prove Katya’s story of what happened in the forest. You’ll just have to believe her.
