Thanks for hanging in there, everyone! It was extremely fun to follow your comments as it all unspooled!
@6: No Kindle, not until they agree to sell their books on fair terms. I want to be able to sell Kindle books that are: 1. DRM free (no limitations on the creation of hardware that can play Kindle files); and 2. Fairly licensed (no contractual limitations on moving your Kindle books to any device you want) There will be a free CC licensed download you can put on your Kindle, and if you want to pay for it, you can always donate a copy to a library through my library donation program!
Looks like the next scene lengths are: 716 2141 1798 789 400 1510 624 265 2016 1464 Tor sometimes gangs up the shorter scenes into a single segment... But that's how the lengths worked out. Cory
Suzanne comes back, have no fear! Another seven installments or so.
The next five installments are 660 words, 2800 words (!), 1080 words, 3800 words (!!!) and 3200 words. So lots of variation!
The scene-breaks were put in, basically, where the scenes ended. Pablo and the Tor folks broke up the book according to where I put in the breaks, before we contemplated making a serial out of it. As a result, many are short, some are long, depending on the moment-to-moment pacing of the novel.
@4: Suzanne and Lester's views, instincts and prejudices about weight, sex, body and attractiveness are major themes in the novel. You are misattributing the prejudices of a character to the author. A character can't outgrow her prejudices if she doesn't have them to begin with.
