Lektu: Thanks for the info. As much as I love Carpenter's The Thing, I was embarrassingly unaware it was adapted from a prose source. I'll pick that novella up. The Terminator is a close one too, but I tend to categorize that one as action-sci-fi. Sure, it's bloody and the idea of this unstoppable cyborg is pretty terrifying, but the film overall bears the pacing and intensity of a thriller (which, in my view, is not the same as horror). Same with Predator, another one that is definitely sci-fi, and skirts into horror territory, but is most definitely action.
