Welcome to the final installment of the Wheel of Time Roundtable! In this weekly mini-series we’ve asked a panel of Wheel of Time experts a number of questions that look at the upcoming final volume in this long-running fantasy series: A Memory of Light and beyond.

We’ve looked at the threat of the Shadow, the threat of everybody else, postulated on what may happen after A Memory of Light, made a wishlist of things we want to see in the final book, and thought about what legacy the Wheel of Time will leave behind.

And you know what? We’re a bit tired of thinking right now, so in this final installment we’re going to imagine what The Wheel of Time:
The Musical! would be like. Moo ha ha!

Last week we looked at the threat of the Shadow as it loomed over our intrepid heroes, despite their victories in recent books, and we postulated how we’d kill Rand and company ourselves. (Then Leigh adopted a puppy and the light came out.)

This week, we move on to threats of the non-Shadow variety. And boy, are they ever legion…

Flush from the fantastic JordanCon a few weeks ago, where my Theorylanders had the pleasure of arresting Jason Denzel for crimes against Wheel of Time fandom, I have the wonderful opportunity to introduce the release of The Path of Daggers ebook (and share more of my “adorable enthusiasm”). While the ebook has been freshly minted by Julie Bell’s beautiful rendition of Elayne, Aviendha, Nynaeve and the Bowl of Winds (which should be reason enough to go grab a copy, like now), The Path of Daggers had me at “Verin.”

That’s right, Verin. In fact, no statement more appropriately describes the journey of Verin Mathwin than “On the heights, the paths are paved with daggers.” While the use of the Bowl of Winds, the Seanchan and Ebou Dar, the travails of Perrin, Rand’s “dealings” with the Seanchan and Egwene finally moving toward Tar Valon and war are all compelling events, Verin’s point of view in the prologue, for me, is its most memorable moment.

JordanCon Invades Atlanta!

After successfully naming the Dark One last week, I’m back to remind the inner Wheel of Time fan in each of you that you are missing out on the greatest WoT event of the year: JordanCon. For the second year in a row, Team Jordan is here again to make each panel memorable: from Harriet McDougal, the editor and wife of the late Robert Jordan, to Maria Simons, the continuity editor and longtime assistant to Robert Jordan (our very own real life Brown Ajah!), these are the most accessible and humble professionals you’ll ever meet.

Not a Wheel of Time fan? Who cares! JordanCon may be dedicated to the discussion of all facets of the Wheel of Time world created by Robert Jordan, but we have writer workshops for aspiring writers, led by best-selling author Brandon Sanderson and award-winning author Jana Oliver. Come check it out; we know you will enjoy our fanboy (and fangirl) energy. And of course, don’t miss the fan favorite and editor of Cracked.com, David Wong!

So, what are Wheel of Time fans to do when they’re missing out on the greatest WoT event of the year? Other than cry a bit pitifully, they can watch streaming video, follow along on Twitter, and catch up with blog posts and photos. George R. R. Martin is the Dark One? Musings on the Suvudu Cage Match 2010 and How Rand al’Thor Defeated a God

If you are not a fantasy fiction fanboy, or the Facebook acquaintance of such, you may have missed the epic battle of fantasy worlds that occurred last week at Suvudu.com. Thanks to a fellow fanboy and an apathetic Friday afternoon (more like Monday morning) full of Hulu, Starcraft 2 and Keeping Up With the Facebookians, I followed the shared link that came with an urgent, “Go now, Rand’s life depends on it!” Admittedly, it took me a few moments to understand all the fuss…I mean, Rand al’Thor was pitted against some guy named Locke Lamora. Not so urgent after all, Jason. As the Cage Match of popular fantasy heroes continued week to week, I kept an eye towards the results, believing with the certainty borne of decades of theory-making that Rand al’Thor would survive to fight the Dark One at the Last Battle.

It took a few rounds of the Suvudu Cage Match for me to recognize the necessity of fan freaks such as myself when it comes to epic fan pride smack-downs. How else can Raistlin’s loss to Dumbledore, Gandalf’s loss to Roland and Hermoine Granger’s loss to Jaime Lannister be explained? Exactly. Fans. In reality, the Suvudu Cage Match was fan vs. fan. And that’s how I found out that George R. R. Martin is the Dark One.
