Gird yourself! Season three of The Witcher (which is also the last season we’ll see Henry Cavill play the grunting main character, Geralt), is set to drop its first five episodes on Netflix at the end of this month. That also means that we’ll be getting more time with everyone’s favorite bard, Jaskier (Joey Batey), and from the sound of it, it seems that the musician will have a princely romance in the upcoming episodes.

In an interview for the latest issue of SFX Magazine (via /Film), Batey confirmed what has been hinted at in the lead up to season three: That Jaskier’s “hot girl summer” (as the actor called it in an earlier interview with Netflix’s Tudum) will likely be with Radovid, the dilettante prince of Redania who is played by Fleabag actor Hugh Skinner. (Note to players of The Witcher video games: This is a very different version of Radovid here, so put any conceptions you have of that version of the character aside.)

In his interview with SFX, Batey confirms that Jaskier doesn’t really see gender when it comes to his amorous entanglements, and that the bard’s romantic storyline will be “a more modern interpretation of the books.”

Within that conversation, Batey also talks about Jaskier’s burgeoning relationship with Radovid. “For the first time in a while, Jaskier can’t work him out,” Batey said. “That to him is the most intriguing prospect.”

If that wasn’t a big enough clue, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said in the same SFX article: “When we started in the writers’ room this season, we had a question about Jaskier that was really fun to explore: Who is Jaskier when he is on his own, away from Geralt, Yen and Ciri?” Hissrich said. “What that brought us to is Jaskier’s first really serious relationship. We introduced a character from the books, Vespula—Jaskier’s on-again-off-again lover, but then we used that dynamic to provide a contrast to what happens when Jaskier actually starts to have deeper feelings toward someone.”

We can see Jaskier fall in love when the first five episodes of The Witcher’s third season drop on Netflix on June 29, 2023.
