Netflix’s Wednesday, the show centered on the titular member of the Addams Family, was a surprise hit for the streaming platform. It was no surprise then, that it got renewed for a second season. What that new season will entail remains a mystery. In a recent interview, however, Wednesday actor Jenna Ortega (pictured above) hinted at what we might see in the upcoming episodes.

In a Variety actor-on-actor interview with Elle Fanning (via Entertainment Weekly), Ortega—who is also a producer on the series—shared that she’s received outlines for a couple of episodes from season two. While she didn’t get into specifics, she did share what she hoped the second season would focus on… and what it wouldn’t.

“I think we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more because it is so lighthearted and I think a show like this, with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously,” Ortega told Fanning before adding, “I think that we’re kind of ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great.”

The love triangle set up in season one of the series wasn’t the most favorite part of the show for many, including Ortega. Ortega did say in her conversation with Fanning, however, that she adored working with Gwendoline Christie, who played Principal Weems, the head of Wednesday’s supernaturally-inclined boarding school. Unfortunately, (Spoilers!) Weems died at the end of the first season, though Ortega is holding out hope Christie will still return.

“Wednesday’s relationship with Weems is one of my favorites because they’re very, very different women and they’re constantly against each other but, simultaneously, they both want to watch each other’s successes and support them, which is such a fascinating dynamic,” Ortega said. “Gwendoline, being as talented as she is, is just really, really a pleasure to work with, so I’m doing everything in my power to throw the most insane plots that would possibly bring this woman back from the dead. I’m trying!”

The first season of Wednesday is now streaming on Netflix. No news yet on when season two will premiere, but it will likely be late 2024 or 2025, given the scripts have yet to be written.
