Ali Wong Will Star in the Animated Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld for Netflix

The next animated series in the works from Netflix has both an excellent cast and a delightful premise. Ali Wong will star in and executive produce Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld, which centers on a Chinese American teenager who doesn’t just have your average small-town struggles to contend with—she’s also being stalked by a demon king who wants her powers.

Or, as Netflix’s summary has it, “Jentry must now fight an entire underworld’s worth of monsters while balancing the horrors of high school.”

If that phrasing reminded you of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, well, it did that for me, too, and I certainly hope this is as promising a successor as it sounds like it will be. The voice cast also includes Lucy Liu, Bowen Yang, Jimmy O. Yang, Lori Tan Chinn, Sheng Wang and Woosung Kim, and the series comes from Echo Wu, who is showrunning her first series. The animation is by Titmouse.

Wong is no stranger to voice acting, having played characters in Tuca & BertieBoJack HorsemanBig Mouth and more. She’s also something of a Netflix staple, between Always Be My Maybe and the upcoming series Beef, in which she stars with Steven Yeun. On the supernatural side of things, she recently starred in Prime Video’s Paper Girls (pictured above).

No premiere date has been announced for Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld.
