We have a full trailer for Apple TV+’s The Big Door Prize, a series by folks from the Schitt’s Creek writers’ room that follows what happens to a small town when a weird machine with the word “MORPHO” emblazoned on it tells people their true life potential.

It’s probably no surprise people break out of their status quo when they get the machine’s answer for them on a little blue index card. Some get the word “Superstar” or “Dancer,” and one elderly gentleman who plays the father of Chris O’Dowd’s character gets “Male Model.” Who’d have guessed?!

Based on the musical overlay, this dramedy looks like it leans into the eeriness factor. The trailer also suggests the show centers on Dusty’s (Chris O’Dowd) family, which—in addition to his male model father and a mother who interprets her designation as “Healer” as having nothing to do with her career as a doctor—includes his wife, Cass (Gabrielle Dennis) and his daughter, Trina (Djouliet Amara). Crystal Fox also appears to get her dance moves on as Izzy, who is also Cass’ mother and mayor of the town. We get glimpses of the others on the cast as well, including Damon Gupton as Father Ruben, and Josh Segarra as “Superstar” Giorgio. Ally Maki also stars on the show as Hanna, and Sammy Fourlas plays the high school student, Jacob.

And while The Big Door Prize is based on the eponymous book by M.O. Walsh, showrunner David West Read has said the series will veer off at least a little bit from the source material, if only to leave the door open (sorry, not sorry) for another season if the show takes off.

You can check out The Big Door Prize yourself when it premieres on Apple TV+ on March 29, 2023.
