With a whole fistful of new Walking Dead spinoffs on the way, the original zombie spinoff is set to stumble off into the sunset this year. AMC has announced that Fear the Walking Dead will end with its upcoming eighth season—which will, as is all the rage these days, air in two chunks beginning in May.

Fear the Walking Dead premiered in 2015, and was set at the very start of the zombie outbreak. Originally a prequel series that starred Kim Dickens (Deadwood), FtWD had a time-skipping reboot with its fourth season, allowing the story to run concurrently with the original Walking Dead, and to star that show’s Morgan (Lennie James) along with Alycia Debnam-Carey (The 100). Debnam-Carey’s time on the show is over, but Dickens returned at the end of last season, and is a main cast member once again for the twelve-episode final season, the first half of which premieres May 14th. The final six episodes will air later this year.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the zombie-riddled world, the new spinoffs approach. The Walking Dead: Dead City, starring the unlikely pair of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), is set to make its debut in June, though no specific date has been given. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, starring Norman Reedus, will begin its adventure in France later this year. (How the hell does Daryl get to France? If one can get to France why would one not simply hole up on a zombie-free island with many natural resources? I have questions.)

The third TWD spinoff, an untitled series starring Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) that was teased at the very close of the original TWD series finale, is now scheduled to begin production this year, and premiere in 2024.

In short, the zombie apocalypse on television isn’t ending anytime soon.
