He may not be Superman or The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia (pictured above) anymore, but that doesn’t mean Henry Cavill isn’t keeping busy. He’s already got a new franchise on his plate: a Warhammer 40,000 series and film that are in the works with Amazon.

It is well established that Henry Cavill is a huge nerd. In a statement, he said, “I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility.”

Games Workshop’s almost 40-year-old Warhammer world includes miniatures, tabletop games, books, videogames, and more. Amazon now has world rights to adapt the work; Deadline says, “The agreement encompasses rights to the universe across TV series, film, and likely games and animation.”

Warhammer 40,000 is described in terms that sound very bleak indeed:

The game is set in the grim darkness of the far future, where mighty armies clash on countless war-torn worlds and Humanity stands alone, beset on all sides by the threats of the heretic, the mutant and the alien. There is no mercy. There is no respite. Prepare yourself for battle.

Even without this massive new project, Cavill wasn’t lacking for roles. He’s in Apple TV’s upcoming spy thriller Argylle, from director Matthew Vaughn; he’s also starring in the reboot of Highlander; and he’s one of the leads in Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, another spy flick (this one set in WWII).

And there’s still one more Witcher season in which Cavill will be very stoic and kill many monsters.
