Netflix has partnered with Legendary Entertainment to create a film of the popular manga My Hero Academia. The series already has an anime version (pictured above), but this will be the first time it gets live-action treatment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shinsuke Sato will direct the film in his English language debut. Joby Harold, whose previous credits include Obi-Wan Kenobi and Army of the Dead, will pen the screenplay.
My Hero Academia is written and illustrated by Kohei Horikoshi and first came out in July 2014. It has more recently become popular in North America, and the anime version of the show is now in its fifth season.
The story takes place in a world where roughly eighty percent of the population manifests a superpower of some kind, which is called a “quirk.” High school student Izuku Midoriya (a.k.a. Deku) was born without a quirk but makes his way to U.A. High School, an elite academy that trains heroes. Through a twist of fate, Deku ends up becoming one of the greatest heroes of all time.
This isn’t the first live-action manga adaptation for Netflix. The streaming platform previously backed an adaptation of Death Note, which came out in 2017 and didn’t fare well critically or with general audiences.
No news yet on any casting or when the movie will go into production, much less make its way to Netflix.
