Happy Holidays! Adult Swim “Yule Log” Video Is Actually a Full-Fledged Live-Action Horror Film

Tis the season for yule logs videos! Last night, Adult Swim released a new take on the yule log video, however, from Casper Kelly, the mind behind the short, Too Many Cooks. While the description for the video only says “cozy crackling fire,” the fact that it had a TV-MA rating for “violence, adult language, and brief nudity” hinted that this video is more than what it seems.

“At this time of year, it’s nice to recognize the people important to you, and for us, that’s Adult Swim fans,” Michael Ouweleen, President of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, said in a statement. “We hope they enjoyed this gift that literally no one knew they wanted.”

Adult Swim is coy about what the plot of the feature is, and only calls it “a pulse-pounding story set within a remote cabin in which a mysterious and deadly fireplace constantly burns.”

Kelly gives a little bit more insight as to what his film is all about. “Last year during the holidays I was watching a yule log video and suddenly I had an image of legs walking past the fire, just slightly out of focus, and hearing dialogue off screen,” Kelly said in a statement about his inspiration for his yule log-related horror movie. “I loved the mysteriousness of that, and a story started to form. I’m so grateful to Adult Swim for taking the plunge with me, and I’m so proud to have made their first live-action film!”

The end credits song, “The Fireplace,” was composed by Too Many Cooks scribe Shawn Coleman with lyrics by Kelly. It is also performed by the best sad singing clown out there, Puddles Pity Party, a great act that you should check out even if horror movies inspired by yule logs aren’t your thing. “The Fireplace” will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all digital streaming services beginning tomorrow.

Adult Swim Yule Log is now available to stream on HBO Max or to purchase digitally.
