The title of the movie Cocaine Bear says it all. It’s a movie about a bear. Who does cocaine. And then kills a lot of people, if this red band trailer for the film is any indication. And if that sounds unbelievable, it’s apparently inspired by a true story.

That’s right, in 1985, a bear apparently got into a stash of cocaine. The movie clearly takes a lot of artistic license with those facts, however, and the result is a dark comedy where the bear goes on a rampage and rips some people apart after doing too much blow. As one character says in the trailer, everyone who comes into contact with the bear, as well as the bear itself, is fucked.

Here is the movie’s official synopsis:

Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner’s plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood.

The movie is directed by Elizabeth Banks (Charlie’s Angels, Pitch Perfect 2) and owes its screenplay to Jimmy Warden (The Babysitter: Killer Queen). Cocaine Bear is also produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (a.k.a. Lord and Miller of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse fame).

It has an impressive cast as well, which includes Keri Russell (The Americans), O’Shea Jackson, Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Christian Convery-Jennings (Sweet Tooth), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project), Isiah Whitlock Jr. (BlacKkKlansman), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Hannah Hoekstra (2019’s Charlie’s Angels) and Aaron Holliday (Sharp Objects), and Margo Martindale (The Americans). It also features Ray Liotta (The Many Saints of Newark) in one of his last performances before he sadly passed this year.

Are you ready to get some Cocaine Bear into your eyeballs? You’ll sadly have to wait a few months if so, as the movie doesn’t premiere in theaters until February 24, 2023. In the meantime, we have this trailer and the poster below to get our fix.
