Is Charlie Cox Playing the Old Daredevil or a New One in the MCU?

We’ve seen Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock (a.k.a. Daredevil) in the current MCU twice now: first that brief cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and, most recently, in two She-Hulk episodes where he teamed up (in more ways than one) with Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters.

We’ll see even more of Murdock when he stars in his own Disney+ series with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. But how much will the MCU’s version of Matt Murdock be like the one we saw in Netflix’s three seasons of Daredevil? Are they the same person in any sense?

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter after the She-Hulk finale, Cox shared what little he knew about what the MCU version of his character will be like.

“I honestly don’t know,” he said (so don’t get your hopes up too much, folks). “I haven’t really gotten to that point with the writers of our next Daredevil show. So I haven’t read any scripts yet, and we haven’t really talked at length about what this current iteration will be like. Just by the fact that they’re using me as an actor to play the part, it’s clear that there are going to be some consistencies and there are also going to be some differences. What they are and how we integrate the two is going to be the challenge of the new show. These things are really complicated, and obviously, opinions are always divided. What people like is always varied, but we have an opportunity to at least take what worked really well and then also add some cool elements, ideas, concepts, and themes that we weren’t able to do before. So it’s Daredevil, but upgraded.”

Daredevil, but better! I personally hope any changes are better than the suit “upgrade” we saw in She-Hulk, which wasn’t my cup of tea. But if that’s the thing I like least about any changes to the character, I’ll be a big fan of Daredevil’s upcoming MCU show (which still, alas, has no announced release date).
