It’s pretty much impossible to read the description of Space Cadet and not think, “Ah, so kind of like Legally Blonde but with space?” As Variety puts it, writer/director Liz W. Garcia’s film is about “a Florida party girl who turns out to be the only hope for the NASA space program, after a fluke puts her in training with other candidates. They may have better resumes, but not her smarts, heart and moxie.”

(To be fair, though, Elle Woods’ legal success was no fluke.)

Emma Roberts (Scream Queens) will star as this moxie-filled cadet, and the cast has just filled out quite interestingly.

No character details have been announced about the latest additions, but they include The Umbrella Academy’s Number One, Tom Hopper (pictured above); Gabrielle Union, soon to be seen in A24’s The Inspection (and forever beloved to many for Bring It On); The Kids in the Hall’s David Foley; Colombian pop star Sebastián Yatra; and Desi Lydic (Awkward).

Writer/director Garcia also wrote and directed The Lifeguard (which starred Kristen Bell) and the slightly oddly named One Percent More Humid, which starred a fascinating lineup: Ozark‘s Julia Garner, Ted Lasso‘s Juno Temple, and the perpetually underestimated Alessandro Nivola (who you probably know from Face/Off).

Space Cadet (no relation to the Heinlein novel of the same name) begins filming next week, and will arrive on Prime Video at some date in the future.
