It’s understandable if you haven’t heard of Pennyworth, a series previously on Epix that features the early days in the life of Alfred Pennyworth, the man who eventually becomes the Waynes’ butler. The show is better than that description suggests, and also has gotten completely batshit (in the best way) in its later episodes, as the Season Three trailer above only suggests.

As this trailer reveals, Alfred Pennyworth, deftly played by actor Jack Bannon, is a man of mystery who can also blow up things if need be. In Season Three, it looks like Grandpa Wayne is hiring him to look into a drug that is making people literally lose their minds.

Here’s the season’s official synopsis:

The DC origin series PENNYWORTH: THE ORIGIN OF BATMAN’S BUTLER follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) and his wife Martha (Emma Paetz), before they become Bruce Wayne’s parents. Season three of the psychological thriller begins after a five-year time jump: the civil war is over, and a cultural revolution has changed the world for better or worse – ushering in a new age of Super Heroes and Supervillains.

In addition to Bannon and Paetz, Pennyworth stars Paloma Faith, Ben Aldridge, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater, and Simon Manyonda. If you’re interested but haven’t watched the first two seasons yet, don’t fret — they’re currently available on HBO Max.

Season Three of the show will premiere on HBO Max on October 6, 2022.
