Oil Says Bye-Bye To Matthew Fox (And The World) in Last Light Trailer

What if all the oil in the world suddenly stopped working? That’s the premise of Peacock’s Last Light, and unsurprisingly, the sudden collapse of oil as an energy source throws the world into chaos. In the series’ first trailer, we see how one intrepid family (which includes actor Matthew Fox of Lost fame as the father) deals with the fallout.

Last Light, which is based on the eponymous book by Alex Scarrow, focuses both on the struggle of Fox’s family trying to get back together as well as the geopolitical fallout from oil suddenly becoming a no-go as a fuel source. (Something that, apparently, was done intentionally somehow?)

Here’s Last Light’s official synopsis:

Petro-chemist Andy Nielsen knows how dependent the world is on oil; if something were to happen to the world’s oil supply, it would set off a chain reaction: transportation would grind to a halt, supplies would cease to be delivered, law enforcement would be overwhelmed. While on a business trip to the Middle East, Andy realizes that his worst fears are coming true and his family is separated at this crucial moment. His teenage daughter, Laura, is alone at home in London while his wife, Elena, and young son, Sam, are in Paris. Amid this chaos, each family member will sacrifice everything to find one another, despite the distance and the dangers that separate them.

In addition to Fox playing Andy Nielsen, the show stars Joanne Froggatt as his wife, Elena; Alyth Ross as the teenage daughter, Laura; and Taylor Fay as the young son, Sam. It also stars Amber Rose Revah, Victor Alli, Tom Wlaschiha, and Hakeem Jomah. It’s executive produced and directed by Jack Ryan alum Dennie Gordon, which gives you a sense of the vibe the show is going for, and is co-showrun by  Patrick Massett and John Zinman (Friday Night Lights, The Blacklist).

The show will start streaming on Peacock on Thursday, September 8.
