Yellowjackets Continues Its Excellent Casting, Adding Lauren Ambrose for Season 2

There’s a new adult in the Yellowjackets cast—which means at least one more of the ’90s teens survived their harrowing crash in the wilderness. Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) has been cast as an adult version of one character, and fans of the show can probably guess who. But in the interest of spoiler protocol, you’ll have to read on to find out!

Ambrose is playing the adult version of Van, played as a teen by Liv Hewson, who has been bumped up to series regular for the second season. There’s a lot of potential for drama here, as teen Van was involved with teen Tai (Jasmin Savoy Brown), who is played as an adult by Tawny Cypress.

It’s a perfect bit of casting for many reasons, one of them being the show’s genius for casting ’90s stars as the adult versions of its ’90s teens. Ambrose may be best known for Six Feet Under, and she’s currently on Servant (pictured above), but if you’re of a certain age you may have considerable affection for her thanks to Can’t Hardly Wait, one of the great teen comedies of the late ’90s. (She was also in Torchwood: Miracle Day, but we won’t hold that against her.)

Ambrose joins Cypress, Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, and Juliette Lewis as an adult Yellowjacket, but the show’s creators, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, have hinted there are more adult survivors to come, including adult Lottie and “at least one other.”

Yellowjackets‘ second season begins production at the end of the month; no premiere date has been announced. The first season is streaming on Showtime.
