The Orphan Black sequel is moving forward, and we now know that Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) will be starring in the upcoming AMC show!

According to Variety, the sequel, Orphan Black: Echoes, will have Ritter play a character named Lucy. We don’t know much about Lucy other than she will be the lead role of the show, though Variety describes her as having an “unimaginable origin story” and as someone who is trying to figure out her place in the world.

Here’s the synopsis for Echoes:

Set in the near future, the new Orphan Black takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

The show has Anna Fishko (The Society, Fear the Walking Dead) on board as creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer as well as John Fawcett, who directed seventeen episodes of the original series, on board as executive producer and director. Boat Rocker, the producers behind the original Orphan Black, is also on board for Echoes. No news yet on whether Tatiana Maslany, the star of the first series, will be back for the sequel.

“I am thrilled to begin this new chapter in the world of Orphan Black,” Fishko said in a statement back in April announcing the show’s title. “Creating a story that embraces the legacy of the original show has been so gratifying, and I’m excited for audiences to embark on a new journey that explores the big questions of what makes us who we are. I’m incredibly lucky to have such supportive partners in Boat Rocker, John Fawcett and AMC, and can’t wait to introduce audiences old and new to the next installment of this beloved story.”

The ten-episode first season of Orphan Black: Echoes is expected to premiere on AMC and AMC+ some time in 2023.
