A game of chaos, strife, and pain is afoot for the characters of Teen Wolf. A very dramatic game, if the voiceover in this teaser is anything to go by. The first teaser for the film—a sequel to Teen Wolf the series, which was very, very loosely based on the previous Teen Wolf the movie—was shown at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, and while there’s a lot of growling and running and crawling, the real hook comes right at the end, when someone comes back from the dead.

That’s werewolf hunter Allison (Crystal Reed), who died at the end of the show’s third season. Or not! The only real dialogue in the teaser is Scott (Tyler Poesy) telling Alison’s father (J.R. Bourne), “Allison? She’s alive? She’s back.”

At the Teen Wolf panel, Poesy, co-star Tyler Hoechlin, and creator Jeff Davis “revealed that that the movie jumps far ahead in time, and Scott is now 50,” Variety reports. Scott is living in L.A., which Derek (Hoechlin) has a son (presumably the younger fellow we see with Hoechlin in the teaser).

Little else has been announced about the film’s plot, but series stars Shelley Hennig, Orny Adams, Linden Ashby, Bourne, Seth Gilliam, Colton Haynes, Ryan Kelley, Melissa Ponzio, Dylan Sprayberry, Khylin Rhambo, and Ian Bohen are all returning. Two key players are not: Dylan O’Brien, who decided not to return for the film, and Arden Cho, who was reportedly offered “half the per-episode salary proposed to her three counterparts,” according to Deadline.

Teen Wolf isn’t Jeff Davis’s only wolf-centric project for Paramount; he’s also developing the unrelated series Wolf Pack, which is based on a book series by Edo Van Belkom. A major bit of casting for Wolf Pack was also announced yesterday: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will star in and executive produce the series. The show is about teenagers who discover that they are werewolves, and Gellar will play Kristin Ramsey, an arson investigator described as “a highly regarded expert in her field and no stranger to personal loss, brought in by authorities to catch the teenage arsonist who started a massive wildfire which may have also led to the reawakening of a supernatural predator terrorizing Los Angeles.”

Teen Wolf: The Movie will arrive on Paramount Plus sometime this year.
