One can’t help but think of Lovecraftian cosmic-level terror when one thinks of glory holes. (If you don’t know what a glory hole is… I’m not going to explain it here. Google it if you want but be forewarned—it is very, very NSFW.)

That’s true, at least for director Rebekah McKendry and writers Todd Rigney, Joshua Hull, and David Ian McKendry; the writing and directing team has brought us the horrifically gory and psychedelically creepy film, Glorious, which features Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons voicing a supernaturally inclined glory hole who wants his stall-mate, actor Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) to do… something… for him.

Check out the short teaser above to get more Glorious action.

Glorious speaks to my adoration of Lovecraft, gore, absurdist humor, philosophy, and the type of transgressive movies that leave you thinking I can’t believe I just saw that,” McKendry said in a statement. “It is a wild mix of horror, humor, and heady moralistic concepts about our own existential realizations of who we really are, forcing each of us to stare into our personal abyss. And sometimes, the abyss stares back … and maybe has a favor to ask.”

What does that favor entail? I have no idea, though the poster has Kwanten holding a very bloody disembodied leg, so there’s that. Check out the poster below and also note what the design team has done with the “o” in Glorious. Yes, this is a real movie.

Glorious starts streaming on Shudder on August 18, 2022.
