The trailer for the upcoming horror movie Smile is full of grinning faces, but all of them are completely deranged and terrifying! If anyone ever smiles at me like that, I will promptly start running in the opposite direction. Watch it for yourself, if you don’t mind having nightmares tonight.

Did you watch it? I did and no thank you! The trailer makes a strong case for never smiling again, as those who do so in this clip face a murderous, sometimes decapitated, end.

Why are these smiling folks dying? The movie’s official synopsis sheds some light on that:

After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.

Okay, so that doesn’t really answer why these people are dying, but I’m putting money on some sort of demonic possession, maybe? Or something else suitably scary that will have me terrified for weeks.

In addition to Bacon, Smile stars Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Robin Weigert, Caitlin Stasey with Kal Penn, and Rob Morgan. Parker Finn wrote and directed the film, which is also his theatrical debut.

The movie will grin its way into theaters on September 30, 2022.
