Somehow, it has been twenty-three years since Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow (above) gave me nightmares about iron maidens. Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” had been adapted many times before that, and has been adapted more times since (most notably in a TV show that did its ostensible lead very dirty). Now, Paramount thinks we’re about due for the next one. Deadline reports that Lindsay Beer, who makes her directorial debut with the upcoming Pet Sematery prequel, will write and direct a new Sleepy Hollow film for the studio.
Beer, who has an overall deal with Paramount, has been an in-demand writer for a while. Deadline notes that she has worked on Star Trek—the new movie, whatever it turns out to be—written a draft of a Bambi remake for Disney, and written a Hello Kitty script, as well as serving as showrunner and creator for Netflix’s The Magic Order, which is based on a Mark Millar comic. Her film Sierra Burgess Is a Loser was released by Netflix in 2018.
No details about plot, cast, or release date have been announced about Beer’s Sleepy Hollow. Along with writing and directing, she’ll co-produce the film along with Todd Garner (Mortal Kombat) and Spencer Walken of Broken Road Productions.
