It’s only been two years since Netflix released The Old Guard, Gina Prince-Bythewood’s excellent adaptation of the graphic novel by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández—but it feels like much, much longer. The sequel simply can’t get here soon enough, so every bit of news about it is very welcome.

And the latest casting news is quite intriguing: Uma Thurman (Batman & Robin) and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) are joining Charlize Theron and the rest of the gang in the sequel.

The Old Guard is the story of a group of immortal assassins. Just as they discover a new immortal, things go very bad; someone who’s figured out what they are is trying to capture them. Theron plays Andromache, the group’s leader, whose fraught past is likely to inform the sequel’s story.

There’s no word on who Thurman or Golding will play. Much of the cast from the first film will return, including KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Rucka is once again writing the script, with Victoria Mahoney stepping in as director. (Prince-Bythewood is still on board as a producer.) Mahoney’s experience is largely in television, but includes episodes of some fairly epic shows, including Lovecraft Country and the pilot of the upcoming adaptation of Octavia Butler’s Dawn.

Netflix has yet to announce a release date for The Old Guard 2, and I wish they’d hurry up about it.
