Westworld Trailer Suggests Things Won’t Be So Perfect For Sentient Life in Season Four of the HBO Show

The trailer, set to Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day,” strongly suggests things are far from perfect.

It’s been a couple of years since HBO renewed Westworld for a fourth season. Things have been quiet on the Westworld front since then … until now! Today, HBO released a trailer showing many of our favorite characters trucking along in a dystopian future where—according to the season’s logline—they’re all on “a dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.”

Sounds like fun!

Like the season before it, the eight-episode fourth season takes place in the outside world rather than in the confines of the futuristic theme park where the robotic hosts were first formed.

We are still, however, following the journeys of several of those robots, most notably Delores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Maeve (Thandiwe Newton). We also see Tessa Thompson is coming back, albeit in a new role than when we first met her (to say more would spoil previous seasons) as well as Luke Hemsworth, Jeffrey Wright, and the Man in Black himself, Ed Harris.

Aaron Paul, who joined the cast in Season Three as the down-and-out human, Caleb, is also back, and West Side Story star Ariana DeBose will also be joining the cast for Season Four.

We also found out today that the fourth season of Westworld will premiere on HBO and stream on HBO Max starting Sunday, June 26 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

In the meantime, you can (re)watch the first three seasons on the same services to give your brain a refresh on the state of humanity and the sentient robots in this oh-so-cheery portrayal of the future.
