Let’s save the day Lower Decks style! That’s what Ensign Mariner (Tawny Newsome) says at one point during the all-too-brief 38-second teaser for the third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks, which you can watch in its entirety above.

The stakes are getting higher for those on the lower decks of the U.S.S. Cerritos. The end of season two saw Mariner’s mom/Cerritos Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) arrested for presumably destroying the Pakled planet (something she did not do). This teaser reveals that Mariner and her lower deck pals are going to try to get their former captain/current mom out of the pickle she’s in—Lower Decks-style, of course.

We find out that the ensigns’ plan means that Mariner, Boimler (Jack Quaid), Rutherford (Eugene Cordero), and D’Vana (Noël Wells) are going to sneak back onto the Cerritos and steal it. How stealing a California Class Starship will clear Captain Freeman’s name is unclear, but I’m sure it’ll make some sense (or at the very least give us a chuckle or two) when we see their plan unfold.

The teaser, alas, doesn’t have much imagery from the upcoming season other than a graphic of what looks like the Cerritos docked at a landing station just waiting to be stolen by the best worst crew of ensigns Starfleet has ever seen. Will they be successful in commandeering the ship? And what will they do with it if they are?

Who knows! The good news is that season three of the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks will premiere on Paramount+ sometime later this year.
