Captain space dad is back and reporting for duty. The new trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which comes just a month ahead of the show’s debut, has got everything: Aliens! Kissing! Swordfighting! Fancy ship maneuvering! And a crew that can do anything.

“You want to seek out new life,” Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) says, “go where the aliens are.” And it’s pretty clear the USS Enterprise will be doing quite a bit of that.

Is it possible Pike’s hair is even taller than when we last saw him, in season two of Discovery? While a previous teaser leaned on the idea that Pike is coming out of retirement to lead the Enterprise‘s crew, this one focuses on everything that happens once he’s back in the captain’s chair—still a bit brash and possibly too cheery about everything. Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn return as Spock and Number One, and many of the new cast members get a moment in this trailer, too. (Ortegas is already my favorite.)

Strange New Worlds also stars Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura; Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel; Babs Olusanmokun as Doctor M’Benga; Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas; and Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh. But the real star of this particular trailer is space: epic cities, beautiful gardens, many aliens, the surface of a comet, some sort of giant egg thing that maybe nobody should’ve touched, an exploding planet—there’s a lot to ogle in just two minutes, and that’s before you take into account the muttering about the whole future hanging in the balance (again).

Strange New Worlds has Akiva Goldsman (Discovery, Picard) and Henry Alonso Myers (The Magicians) as co-showrunners; the premiere episode was written by Goldsman from a story by him, current Star Trek mastermind Alex Kurtzman, and Discovery producer Jenny Lumet. It premieres May 5th on Paramount Plus.
