Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya (pictured above) has a new film coming from Netflix—but he won’t be on screen for this one. With Joe Murtagh (Gangs of London), Kaluuya is the co-writer of The Kitchen, a dystopian story set in a future London “where the gap between rich and poor has been stretched to its limits,” according to the film’s logline.

He’s not the only person on the filmmaking team who’s more known for his work in front of the camera: Michael Fassbender is among the film’s executive producers.

The idea for The Kitchen was created by Kaluuya, Kibwe Tavares (Noughts + Crosses) and Daniel Emmerson (Assassin’s Creed); Variety notes that in 2016, the project was selected for the Sundance Screenwriting and Directing Lab. Tavares will direct the film.

The summary explains that in the film’s futuristic London,

All forms of social housing have been eradicated and London’s working classes have been forced to live in temporary accommodation on the outskirts of the city, The Kitchen is the first and the largest of its kind, it’s London’s last village harbouring residents that refuse to move on and move out of the place they call home. It’s here we meet Izi, a resident of the kitchen who is desperately trying to find a way out and 12-year-old, Benji, who has lost his mother and is searching for a family. We follow our unlikely pair as they battle to survive in a system that is stacked against them.

Kane Robinson (Top Boy) has been cast as Izi, and Jedaiah Bannerman as Benji. The Kitchen is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2023.
