Two Boom! Comics, Irredeemable and Incorruptible, will be Combined Into One Netflix Feature

Two popular Boom! Comics created by author Mark Waid (who wrote a post for Tor.com in 2011 about Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor) are getting combined into one movie that will ultimately stream on Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Jeymes Samuel (The Harder They Fall) will be combining Waid’s Irredeemable comic series and its spinoff Incorruptible into a single movie. The screenplay for the adaption will be penned by Kemp Powers, who co-directed and co-wrote the Pixar feature Soul and got an Oscar nomination for writing the film One Night in Miami.

Irredeemable took the superhero tropes we all know and may or may not love and turned them on their heads. In it, the world’s greatest superhero, The Plutonian, breaks bad and becomes the world’s greatest supervillain, responsible for the death of millions. Incorruptible does the opposite—it follows supervillain Max Damage as he steadily becomes heroic in response to The Plutonian’s downfall.

The two comics series ran from 2009 to 2012 and sold over a million copies each. The adaptation also has some big-name producers behind it, including Shawn Carter (AKA Jay-Z) and James Lassiter, the latter of whom also produced Samuel’s The Harder They Fall western, which had an all-star cast including Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, Regina King, Delroy Lindo, and Lakeith Stanfield.

The project is still in its early days, so no news yet on who will be in the feature or when it will swoop onto Netflix.
