Christopher Pike Is Called Out of Sad Retirement in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Trailer

The latest Star Trek spinoff, Strange New Worlds, is getting ready to boldly go where, well, we’ve kinda been before. I’m not complaining though! Far from it! I really enjoyed Anson Mount’s portrayal of Captain Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Discovery, and I’ve been more than ready to see him and his U.S.S. Enterprise crew explore new worlds (strange ones, even) in the upcoming series.

That series started production in Toronto about a year ago, and this March we finally get our first teaser (posted above) of what the new show will look like.

We see a lot of Mount’s Christopher Pike: We see him in a cabin with a long beard and in desperate need of a haircut; we see him riding a horse through the snow with the aforementioned beard while a voiceover calls him back to Starfleet; and at the end of the teaser, we see him clean-shaven and back in Starfleet uniform, looking out the window of a starship that I’d bet my favorite tricorder is the Enterprise.

The trailer also emphasizes via voiceover from Rebecca Romijn’s Number One that exploring space will be forever full of wonder, no matter how much our logical minds may understand there are many other worlds and galaxies out there.

In addition to Mount, Romijn, and Peck, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds stars Trek newcomers Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura(!), Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Babs Olusanmokun as Doctor M’Benga, and Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel.

The series premieres on Paramount+ on May 5, 2022.
