Great news for Quantum Leap fans—the new Quantum Leap pilot at NBC continues to move forward and has cast a lead role for the series.

According to Variety, actor Raymond Lee has joined the production as a major character named Dr. Ben Seong. Described as “a world-renowned physicist” working as part of the new Quantum Leap team thirty years after the events of the original series, could Dr. Seong become the Leaper himself? If so, he’ll be following in the footsteps of Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula)—but then, perhaps he’ll be the new show’s Al equivalent, who was played by Dean Stockwell in the original and provided Sam with holographic support. I know absolutely nothing, but I’d place my bets in the former camp… though I could be wrong!

Lee’s previous credits include working on AMC’s  Kevin Can F—k Himself  (pictured above) as well as parts on Here and Now, Made For Love, Mozart in the Jungle, and Scandal. He also has a part in the upcoming Tom Cruise-led blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick.

The original Quantum Leap is a much-beloved show from the late ’80s/early ’90s that Tor.com’s Leah Schnelbach has previously outlined as rife with reboot/sequel potential.  The new show only has a pilot order so far, but here’s hoping it gets picked up for a full series and will be heading to NBC sooner rather than later.
