Furiosa, the prequel to George Miller’s 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road, is set to premiere in theaters in May 2024, and while that’s sadly still years away, we’ve got some news as to what the feature will cover (besides Anya Taylor Joy playing a young Furiosa, of course).

In the book Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, author Kyle Buchanan put together an oral history of the making of the first film. While doing so, he also got some hints as to what Furiosa, which Miller is also directing, will be like.

Furiosa is more of a traditional three-act drama. If people are expecting to see another chase movie, it’s not going to be that,” Fury Road assistant director and producer told Buchanan (via Slashfilm) in the book.

Making Furiosa something other than a non-stop action movie has the benefit of letting us get to see and experience other parts of the Max Max world, including locales that were only mentioned in passing in the 2015 film. “When I started reading [the Furiosa script], I couldn’t put it down,” unit production manager Dan Hood says in Buchanan’s book. “It is going to be really, really good. You get to see Gas Town. You get to see the Bullet Farm. It’s exciting to be able to build that stuff.”

That’s right—you only have to wait a little over one-and-a-half years to see Miller’s vision of Gas Town and the Bullet Farm, places that young Furiosa undoubtedly frequented before she became the Charlize Theron version we saw in Fury Road.

The oral history also touched on Chris Hemsworth’s role in the film, specifically that he’ll be playing a major villain. “George saw Chris [Hemsworth] initially as a courtesy and then fell in love with the idea,” producer and first assistant director P.J. Voeten said (via Slashfilm). “He’s going to play totally against type, the lead baddie. Unfortunately, we’ve got to find all of our other characters that aren’t around anymore: a new Immortan, a new Bullet Farmer, and a few others.”

It’s a bummer we’ll have to wait a while to see Hemsworth as a big bad, potentially on the Bullet Farm or elsewhere in the Mad Max world. Until then, we can read Buchanan’s book or give Fury Road another rewatch.
